Hollow Legs: FM Mangal, Camberwell

Hollow Legs: FM Mangal, Camberwell

FM Mangal, Camberwell

I've never been much good at Turkish food. Every single time I've been to an ocakbasi, without fail, I've stuffed myself silly on mezze, filling up on hummous and taramasalta, those grilled breads shovelling various dips and paste until I'm too full for my main course. The grilled meats take a back seat while I forlornly pick at them, willing my digestive system to hurry up and do it's thing.?

The same was almost true of when I visited FM Mangal, in Camberwell. A favourite of the critics, I'd heard much of the grilled onions in magic sauce (top photo). We managed to refrain from over-ordering, probably much down to Cherry who had been before. She carefully guided me towards one shared starter and a shared main. I was doubtful - are we sure we don't want more? - she was confident, and I am pleased I took heed.?

Those grilled onions, complimentary at the beginning of the meal, were indeed magic. Charred and slightly bitter, they bathed in a sweet and sour sauce that was pink from pomegranate. Thin breads dusted with spice and glistening with fat were excellent dunkers.?

Grilled aubergines were slathered with a spicy tomato sauce. Falling apart with tenderness, they were a good example of a well-treated aubergine. Our mixed grill main had tiny little lamb ribs, succulent chicken wings, a chop and a kofte or two. The rice, plump with butter finished us off.?

We both walked away with change from a ?20, after a couple shots of Amaretto-like?liqueur?on the house; the straight-forward but smiling waitresses waved us off into the night. It's not going to win any Michelin stars, but I'm pretty damn pleased to have a local that serves me a magic sauce - and no, they won't give you the recipe.?

Cebu PUJ terminal owes City 10% share of revenues | Sun.Star

Sunday, September 30, 2012

STATE auditors want the Mandaue City Government to get its share of the revenues collected by a jeepney terminal operating at a mall in the North Reclamation Area.

According to a Commission on Audit (COA) report, the City could have earned additional income had it collected its 10 percent share on the gross revenues of the terminal at the Parkmall.

Check our new look and tell us what you think.

The mall is operated by the Golden Great Value Properties Inc., according to the report.

State auditors recommended that city officials require Parkmall terminal?s management to remit the City?s share.

Memo

City Administrator James Abadia already issued a memorandum directing the City Treasurer?s Office to collect the City?s share on the gross revenue of the terminal operations.

The City ?failed to exercise its right to collect its share in the income of the terminal operations,? the COA report said.

State auditors cited a city ordinance that sets the requirements for the accreditation and regulation of jeepney, V-hires and bus terminals in the city.

Section 9 of City Ordinance 11-2010-554 provides that ?the City of Mandaue shall be entitled to not less than 10 percent of the gross revenues from the terminal operation? rentals of parking bays and garage and such other income generated from the use of the terminal.?

Under the ordinance, the City? 10-percent share should be remitted on a quarterly basis.

Recommendations

According to the COA report, jeepney drivers are required to pay P20 upon entering the terminal at Parkmall, whether they park or not.

The report did not indicate the City?s total uncollected share. Sun.Star Cebu called City Treasurer Regal Oliva, but he could not be reached.

Of COA?s 64 previous recommendations, the City implemented 37, one of which was to make the City?s slaughterhouse fully operational.

The City partially implemented 12 recommendations, while 15 have yet to be implemented.

Wikipad hands-on: A fresh take on tablet gaming, but at what cost?

wikipad hands on
The conventional wisdom says that tablets are for casual games and game consoles are for serious games (with the PC combining a bit of both). Aiming to upend the status quo is Wikipad, the first ground-up gaming tablet.

What makes the Wikipad different from the dozens of other Android tablets available is its unique game controller. The entire 10-inch tablet slides into a plastic frame that adds two analog control sticks, plus all the triggers and buttons one would find on an Xbox or PlayStation controller. The two parts are designed to snap together easily, and when held, it feels like a giant gamepad with a big built-in screen.

"One thing that is missing from the smartphone or tablet are the physical controls, and over the past couple of decades people have been making games with the controller in mind," says Wikipad CEO James Bower. "Now, with tablets, people started thinking how can they control a game with these gimmicky type controls like a d-pad based on touch or accelerometers or whatever they may be. Developers have had to dumb down the quality of these games to make them work on the tablet. "

wikipad hands on

As for games on the WikiPad, anything that works on an Android tablet will work on this device. Almost all action, racing, and adventure games support the use of a gamepad, meaning they'll work automatically with the Wikipad controls.

Many Android games are of the casual variety -- puzzle-solving, hidden object, Angry Birds style games. But, there are also plenty of Xbox-lite style games, from Gameloft, EA, and other game makers. It's in these console-style games that the Wikipad really flies, and the controller works great and feels natural.

The entire package is also very lightweight, and the tablet by itself is much lighter than a comparable iPad. Without the gamepad add-on, it looks and feels like a standard tablet.

But, as inventive as the Wikipad is, this is far from a guaranteed hit. The games it plays are the same as you can get on any Android tablet, so there's not really any exclusive content to get excited about. The screen on the tablet is only 1,280x800, which is lower than most other current tablets, laptops, and high-end phones.

wikipad on gamestop.com

And the biggest hurdle of all may be the price. The Wikipad, which includes both the tablet and gamepad dock, will cost $499 when it's released on October 31. That's more than any of the three big game consoles, more than HD big-screen tablets from Amazon and Barnes & Noble, and the same as an entry level iPad, which lacks the external game controls, but comes off as a more premium product.

Should you get a Wikipad? It's a fresh new take on tablets, to be sure, and the engineering and design are nicely polished. At the same time, gamers care about one thing -- great games -- and this pricey experiment doesn't have unique killer must-have content just yet.

The Wikipad will be available starting October 31 for $499.

Princess Anne urges commitment to graft fight | Times of Zambia

?

?PRINCESS Anne (insert) addresses parliamentarians yesterday.

By CHILA NAMAIKO? ?

PRINCESS Anne of Great Britain has called on Members of Parliament (MPs) to continue showing exemplary commitment in the fight against corruption by drafting adequate and effective laws.

And Government chief whip, Yamfwa Mukanga has hailed Britain?s plans to help Zambia with about 59 million British Pounds annually until 2015 to help hasten her achievement to attain the Millennium Development Goals (MDGS).

Speaking in Lusaka yesterday at Parliament buildings when she addressed MPs, Princess Anne said Zambia had made considerable achievements in many sectors of the economy.

Princess Anne was impressed with the continued dedication exhibited by the Government and parliamentarians to fight corruption in areas such as reinstatement of the abuse of authority of office clause.

?May I congratulate you for the commitment to fighting corruption by reviewing the constitutional process which should happen on a regular basis,? Princess Anne said.

The Princess, who is the daughter of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom (UK), was on a four-day tour of duty in Zambia and was expected to leave the country today.

At Parliament, she was flanked by Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini. Among other dignitaries who attended the parliamentarians? meeting in the auditorium, was leader of Government business and Vice-President Guy Scott.

Princess Anne said Zambia was scoring considerable achievements in various sectors and that the country had potential to grow further because of fertile and abundant land coupled with rich natural resources.

She was happy with Zambia for the peaceful transfer of power from former MMD regime to newly elected Patriotic Front (PF) Government under the leadership of President Michael Sata.

Princess Anne hailed the country for its continued role played in peacekeeping missions and was happy with the solid and cordial bilateral relationship enjoyed between Zambia and the UK.

On the recent Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Anne thanked President Sata for being among hundreds of heads of State who attended the colourful event.

The Princess?s visit to Zambia was part of the celebrations of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II?s Diamond Jubilee. Her Majesty last visited Zambia in 1979.

Mr Mukanga who is Mines, Energy and Water Development Minister said Zambia was gratified with the British government for its plans of spending an average of 59 million Pounds annually until 2015 in Zambia to attain MDG targets on poverty, maternal and mortality and sanitation.

He said Zambia was thankful to her Majesty for being instrumental in supporting the Government deliver better services to its citizens.

?Her Majesty?s government support through the Department for International Development (DfID) is very welcome as it will help to support our Government improve its systems and use its resources to deliver better services,? he said.

He said Britain?s commitment to help Zambia tackle corruption and increase transparency and accountability to its citizens was in line with the PF Government?s zero tolerance for corruption.

Mr Mukanga hailed Britain for the supported it had rendered to Parliament?s reform programme in conjunction with other cooperating partners to enable Zambian Government become a real Parliament.

He said her Majesty the Queen?s role as head of the Commonwealth was appreciated by all member States like Zambia as she had shown dedicated service and leadership in her 60 years reign.

The minister said the Queen had shown unsurpassed personal and unwavering commitment to all that the Commonwealth represented in areas of shared values of democracy, development and diversity.

?It is for this reason that we wish her Majesty long life so that she can continue to render her invaluable service to the Commonwealth family,? Mr Mukanga said.

The Commonwealth remains a relevant organisation in helping all its 54 independent member States to tackle challenges of the modern world.

He said Zambia and the UK were adapting to challenges such as continued economic growth, climate change, threats from crime and lawlessness, unemployment, human rights, abuses that cemented the cherished relationships.

And Dr Scott is this morning expected to move a motion to adjoun Parliament to enable MPs attend Mama Betty Kaunda?s burial.

US temporarily reduces more staff from Libya embassy

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The United States is temporarily withdrawing more staff from its embassy in Libya's capital for security reasons, but hopes to return them to Tripoli early next week, the U.S. State Department said on Thursday.

"This is a temporary further drawdown of staff for security reasons. We will review our posture again early next week with the goal of restoring staff as soon as conditions allow," a State Department official said in New York, where Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is attending the U.N. General Assembly.

The senior official declined to say how many staff were being withdrawn or discuss specifics.

U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were killed during what Washington has called a terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi on September 11.

As seen on TV: Homes where shows were shot

Zillow

"The Beverly Hillbillies" was one of the first shows that took place inside a home with a physical address, rather than in a studio. This enormous 21,523-square-foot estate hosted the series throughout its nine-year run. The 10-bed, 12-bath home was built in 1933.

By Erika Riggs, Zillow

From its magical debut in 1950s households to today's 3-D, Internet-connected and thin-screened versions, television has firmly planted itself into American culture and daily life. We all have favorite shows ? the ones we currently DVR and the ones that went off the air nearly 50 years ago.

As fall gets under way and new programs are added to the evening lineup, we're paying homage to television shows ??old and new ??with a real estate tour. While many shows, especially in the early days, were never shot outside the studio set, a goodly handful of them took place in real homes?that still look exactly as they did on the small screen.

1960s

"Batman"
380 S San Rafael Ave., Pasadena, Calif.

Zillow

Holy mansion, Batman! The 1960s TV series featured a property in Pasadena as Wayne Manor. The 1928 home has 10 bedrooms,?six bathrooms and measures 16,599 square feet ? not including the Batcave, of course.

"The Beverly Hillbillies"
750 Bel Air Road, Los Angeles,?Calif.?

See photo at top.

1970s

"Happy Days"
565 N. Cahuenga Blvd., Los Angeles, Calif.??

Zillow

Although "Happy Days" took place in Milwaukee, like most TV shows, it was actually filmed in Los Angeles. The white-columned house that played home for the Cunninghams was built in 1923 and has?six bedrooms,?two baths and measures 3,904 square feet.

"The Brady Bunch"
11222 Dilling St., North Hollywood, Calif.

Zillow

The midcentury home that hosted the blended Brady clan looks unchanged from its days on the small screen. Built in 1959, the North Hollywood home would be rather small for the Brady family of eight, which is why interior scenes of the show were shot on a studio set.

1980s

"Dallas"
3700 Hogge Drive, Allen, Texas

Zillow

The sprawling Southfork Ranch just outside Plano was the home for J.R. Ewing and his squabbling family during the original run of TV's "Dallas" (the show was recently rebooted by TNT). The home is currently an event center with a special area dedicated to the show, complete with "Dallas" memorabilia, although many of the show's interior scenes were shot?on a?studio set.

"The Golden Girls"
245 N. Saltair Ave., Los Angeles Calif.

Zillow

"The Golden Girls" characters were living in retiree-friendly Miami on the show, but the home used for the exterior was in Los Angeles. The classic 1955 home has?four bedrooms and measures 2,901 square feet.

1990s

"Beverly Hills 90210"
1675 E. Altadena Drive, Altadena, Calif.

Zillow

The "90210" house is not actually located in the fabled ZIP code but 23 miles northeast in the town of Altadena. The four-bed, four-bath house played the home of twins Brandon and Brenda Walsh, and unlike many other TV homes had scenes that were?filmed in the interior of the house, rather than on a studio set.

"Charmed"
1329 Carroll Ave., Los Angeles, Calif.??

Zillow

Peaked roofs, gingerbread trim and other Victorian details made this Los Angeles-area home perfect for three beautiful witches in the TV show "Charmed." The five-bedroom, one-bath home was built in 1903.

2000?present

"The O.C."
6205 Ocean Breeze, Malibu, Calif.

Zillow

Newport Beach of "The O.C." isn't a far cry from Malibu where the TV mansion was located. The stately 6,376-square-foot house was home base for the Cohen family and Ryan Atwood, the troubled teen they took in.

"Grey's Anatomy"
303 W. Comstock St., Seattle, Wash.

Zillow

While there's no such thing as Seattle Grace Hospital, the house from the hit medical series is real and located in Seattle's Queen Anne neighborhood. The turn-of-the-century charmer has?four bedrooms, 2.5 baths and a view of the Space Needle.

"Mad Men"
675 Arden Road, Pasadena, Calif.

Zillow

The Los Angeles area is a decent fit for 1960s New York City on AMC's drama "Mad Men." The first home of Betty and Don Draper, fictionally set in Ossining, N.Y., is actually located in Pasadena on a quiet tree-lined street. The traditional four-bedroom, three-bath home measures 2,654 square feet.

Mark Johnson resigns as KV Racing general manager

(AP) ? Mark Johnson has resigned as general manager of KV Racing Technology after a season of high expectations fell woefully short for the IndyCar Series team.

The whirlwind courtship and preseason signing of former Formula One driver Rubens Barrichello had many believing KV Racing would take a big step this season toward becoming one of the IndyCar's more competitive teams. Instead, Tony Kanaan's third-place finish in the Indianapolis 500 was one of the few highlights.

Johnson had been general manager since 2006, and led the integration of the KV Racing from the Champ Car series into IndyCar during the unification of the series in 2008.

"When he joined the team, we set out on a quest to make KVRT one of the most respected and competitive teams in the series, which I think we achieved," team co-owner Jimmy Vasser said Thursday. "There were a lot of forks in the road, series mergers, driver changes, new equipment and new rules. Throughout it all, Mark was a guiding force. You just don't replace the leadership and experience of Mark Johnson."

Johnson's resignation comes as the team faces an offseason of uncertainty.

Only Kanaan is under contract to return. There has been speculation Barrichello is moving to another team and E.J. Viso is exploring several options that include owning his own team. There's also been discussion that KV Racing could go from a three-car team to a one-car team in 2013, or possibly merge with another small organization.

Kanaan, who had three podium finishes this season, said earlier this month the team got "extremely overwhelmed" by the preseason expectations.

"It's easy to get the right people in place, but then you've got to make all those people communicate well and work well together," he said. "We are not Penske yet and we are not Ganassi yet. Yes, we have three cars, and from the outside you look at it and it's the same organization and the same layout and we are well dressed and have nice scooters. But we have to understand that once you get all these good people together, it takes a little bit of time for everybody to adjust."

Kanaan also said the expectations were far too high on Barrichello, who drove an IndyCar for the first time in January and was competing full-time two months later. He also wasn't granted rookie status by series officials, and that cost Barrichello track time during race weekends. He'd also never raced on an oval before this year.

Barrichello had a season-best finish of fourth at Sonoma, where he tested this year, and five top-10 finishes in 15 races. But, his 11th-place finish in the Indy 500 was best among race rookies.

"Rubens, it's a heavy name, but he's still a rookie, no matter what you say," Kanaan said. "Rubens needed me a lot more than I could use him. And E.J. made huge progress from years past. But for us, the expectations were extremely high. I spent a lot of my time helping them, instead of the other way around. We as far as a team need to do a better job of communicating and use all the people and staff to be able to do it. And even then it doesn't mean you are going to be successful."

Johnson worked with at least nine different drivers at KV, and had the team challenging for poles and podium finishes every season.

"A lot has transpired since I joined the team in 2006," he said in a statement. "I am very happy to have been given the opportunity to contribute to so many of the different projects, both in growing the team and in series initiatives."

European Auto Sales Slump Before Paris Show - Business Insider

PARIS (AP) ? European carmakers were preparing for a future of labor strife, lower sales and more financial uncertainty as they set out their latest models at the Paris Auto Show on Thursday.

France's Peugeot, Citroen and Renault see the event as a chance to show off their newest cars and prototypes to a hometown crowd, but European executives seemed just as preoccupied with the factories they believe must close to cope with a shrinking market.

The latest data show new passenger car registrations in the European Union dropped 8.9 percent in August, the 11th consecutive monthly decline. And the industry is bloated ? there are too many factories to build a dwindling number of cars.

Bailouts from European governments failed to force the carmakers to overhaul their businesses, unlike in the U.S., where 18 car factories were closed after the U.S. government bailed out GM, Chrysler and some suppliers, according to industry analyst Laurent Petizon of Alix Partners. Since 2010, only three European factories have closed.

"The problem is that there hasn't been a profound restructuring," Petizon said.

He argues that the recent years' financial turmoil in Europe is not the cause of the problems afflicting the continent's carmakers. "The crisis only brought into focus the problems that were there," he said.

Most European countries have strong labor protections that can delay layoffs for months after they're announced. Governments are reluctant to facilitate job cuts at a time when unemployment is already in the double-digits in many countries, including France, Italy and Spain.

The consequence, however, is that the automotive sector, one of the continent's most important industries, keeps suffering.

PSA Peugeot Citroen will close one factory in France this year, but the plan to lay off 8,000 workers has run into opposition from France's powerful unions and the government.

The company's chief executive, Philippe Varin, insisted Thursday that the only solution is to close plants, no matter how politically difficult.

"This situation is not tenable over the long term," he said.

Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat and Chrysler, has long advocated that the European Union coordinate such decisions and help carmakers restructure ? since individual countries tend to fight just to save plants on their home turf.

"I think it would be much more beneficial if this became a European problem as opposed to a national problem," he said. "There's no flag that will fix this."

Rebecca Lindland, director of research for IHS Automotive, said the current downturn is no blip. Car manufacturers are facing a long-term reduction in demand in Europe.

"If you can't change demand, you have to change supply," she said.

As far out as 2020, the forecast "really never gets above 15.5 million units," down from 17.5 million in 2007, she said. Plant closures, which many carmakers have been calling for, are "incredibly difficult politically but (are) incredibly necessary."

Even Volkswagen, which has fared better than the manufacturers in Italy and France, is preparing for a long-term contraction, especially in southern Europe.

VW's sales and marketing boss, Christian Klinger, said Thursday that Spain's overall market had fallen by half since 2007 and Italy is down as well.

"It's a development that we all have to live with," he told reporters at the Paris Auto Show.

For VW, North American sales growth remains "relatively stable" while China continues to grow and Russia is "very dynamic," Klinger added.

Varin, the Peugeot CEO, said the situation is only getting worse, with Germany's economy, the traditional powerhouse of Europe, now slowing down as well.

"Our working hypothesis is that the market is at a plateau for the next three years and that 2015 won't look very different from 2012," he said.

The industry will have to redefine itself in coming years, both because new markets like China and Brazil are vitally important and because the economic troubles of the past several years have taken a toll.

Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Renault, said the crisis stretches well beyond the auto industry, with ramifications for years to come: "We have to prepare ourselves for a relatively long period of recovery for Europe. It's not only a financial or a currency crisis, Europe is facing a super-problem of competitiveness."

Social Phobia Disorder Treatment

Social phobia anxiety disorder. What comes to mind? What are the primary signs and symptoms? How is it assessed and diagnosed by clinical psychologists? What are the neurological and psychological causes? What are the medical treatments? Is cognitive behaviour therapy and cognitive restructuring available?

One of the most frequent forms of specific anxiety disorders is social phobia which affects 1% of both men and women worldwide. Essentially, social phobia occurs where this is profound fear of people watching you and judging you in critical ways. Many more of us suffer from this condition than we realize. To some extent, it carries on from social group peer pressures during adolescence into adulthood.

Primary signs and symptoms of this condition are shyness during childhood leading to poor social skills and avoidance strategies. Fear of being watched and judged by peers leads to fear of embrassment and feelings of inadequacy, fear of being rejected, desire for social approval, being awkward in social situations and being uncomfortable where there is the need for social interaction. Fear of attending social events is another symptom. Having poor self-image and low self-esteem is one of the primary signs and symptoms.

Early childhood events and experiences or inherited biological traits are the primary causes of social phobia anxiety disorder allthough these can be overcome. Failure to learn social skills while growing up is the main shared factor in all the cases of social phobia anxiety disorder. Inherited traits occur where the parent may have had social phobia and becomes a world-class warrior about dangers in the world outside the front door.

Some typical examples include shy children raised in isolation by either overcritical and psychologically abusive parents where there is no interaction with other children leading to the development of social skills or the fear of being teased and constant criticism from others because of difficulties with the language, culture and being socially awkward.

Not every case of social phobia anxiety occurs during childhood however. Sometimes during the student years events occur which trigger later social phobia. Such as situation specific events like public speaking or speaking before groups. Any bad experience or traumatic event can lead to the fear of being in social situations and can become genuinely terrifying. Presentations in front of others where there are high expectations can lead to social phobia if it leads to feelings of failure, being useless and being self-critical.

Cognitive behaviour therapy is the best treatment rather than any medical treatment. Social education classes where social skills are learned to increase confidence leading to self-improvement are the answer. Changing negative thoughts to positive thoughts is the real secret to this form of therapy.

Learning social cues and how to respond to them as much as learning psychological cues by cognitive restructuring in self-help groups is the best form of treatment. By challenging the memory of events stored in the amygdala, negative events can be eliminated. Learning to treat others as you wish to be treated so as to establish relationships is the answer to overcoming social phobia anxiety.

Tips To Create The Best Affiliate Marketing Strategy | Eric Chua : Life ...

Web marketing is a very democratic tool that is available to both the largest and smallest businesses. Although this may seem daunting if you have never done it before, there is plenty of great information out there to help you learn how to mount a successful Website marketing campaign.

After they have made a purchase, give them a link to other similar products. If you sell a cookbook, for example, send the customer a link to other cookbooks that you sell. The more you customize your product suggestions to their purchase pattern, the more sales you get.

TIP! Avoid generic 500 error pages in favor of a personalized page. If your data codes do not work this might happen.

Take the necessary time to learn about web design. There are plenty of guides online that will teach you almost everything you need to know about HTML and CSS to get your web design training off on the right foot. Try and commit a fixed amount of time each week so you stay committed to learning web design.

Offer your customers some sort of subscription service related to any products they purchase from your site. This is not only convenient for them but translates to guaranteed sales for you.

Update your content on a regular basis and use a tracking application to see which Affiliate marketing techniques have the most effect on traffic and sales. When you have figured out which approach and tone represent your business the best, promote it and build on it. This will pay off in the future with increased customer visits.

TIP! Discounted prices are a great way to boost your marketing strategy. This often encourages visitors to buy.

Whatever you do, make your website stand out among the rest. It is important that your website is different from others, if you want more traffic. Making an offer stand out is one effective way to accomplish this.

You can get lots of visitors to a website through viral videos. You have to really find something unique and special in order to attract that kind of viewership that will make a video considered viral. However, if you can create a truly viral video, you will see a huge positive impact in your sales.

To increase your ad clicks, place an image on your page that, when clicked, leads to a page that describes the item you are advertising or selling. Use text that looks just like your article?s fonts at the conclusion of every article. They won?t appear like an ad that way.

TIP! Flashy, dazzling websites might be a good idea in theory and might even attract some people, but the more distracting your site is, the harder it will be to keep visitors for the long haul. Remember, you have just a few seconds to grab a visitor?s interest when they arrive at your site, so making a good first impression is key.

Try offering to put a portion of every purchase toward a relevant charity if that is something that will appeal to your audience. You need to make a point to note this on your site so your customers feel they are contributing. A small part of your profit will go to the charity and your number of sales will probably increase.

Publishing a particular press release is one good way for increased traffic which will help with internet promotion. Focus on writing informative, relevant and interesting press releases, then distribute them to trusted outlets. The is a good way to get your name out there.

Be sure to have customer reviews and testimonials included on your site. This is because people want to read testimonials from others who have purchased the product. In addition, they love to read positive experiences other people have had. This can help them feel a bit more comfortable with purchasing from you.

TIP! One tip to keep in mind when marketing online is never to focus all your attention on one method until you are sure that it will provide a stable income. Building a business takes time and rewards for Internet marketing are sometimes not seen for months.

Now that you know what it takes, you should be ready to market your online business. Keep in mind that the Internet is considered a marketplace that?s global and by following these tips, you can successful in it

Blue bricks

New Labour and blue Labour have much to learn from each other, argues James Purnell

I remember sitting with the late Philip Gould last year talking about blue Labour. He was intrigued by Maurice Glasman, the academic who had come up with the moniker, which was then giving our friends an allergic reaction. ?Populist, anti-immigrant, Europhobic,? Peter Mandelson had said. ?A Labour equivalent of warm beer and old maids bicycling?, thought Tony Blair. But Philip said: ?You should explore it. It?s not my thing ? purpose is my thing. But politics is Hegelian ? you need to reconcile the opposites.?

I sensed that New and blue flowed from the same source and, that by going upstream, we could clarify Labour?s approach and get back in touch with the voters who had inspired it. Yet, when it appeared, blue Labour, a revisionist step within the ethical socialist tradition, was treated more as an enemy than a cousin.

This was a family feud with old roots going back to Ramsay MacDonald and Keir Hardie, whose uneasy alliance created Labour, but whose easy rivalry still haunts it. Indeed, their relationship teaches us both the necessity of power but also the difficulty the party has remembering that lesson.

In its early years Labour faced the classic insurgent party?s dilemma ? cooperate with the established party, or try to replace it? By 1903, the Labour Representation Committee was three years old but struggling at the margins of political life. That January, MacDonald started negotiations with the Liberals, talks which were kept secret from everyone except Hardie. The agreement reached in September of that year, that the Liberals would give Labour a free run in 30 seats, got Labour?s 29 MPs elected in 1906.

In many ways Hardie was as pragmatic as MacDonald. Within the LRC, Hardie was prepared to take a stand, but when it came to national politics he was often content to let MacDonald do the deals, and take the opprobrium. Here was carved the faultline in Labour?s soul. Idealism or pragmatism? Principles or results? Dreams or reality? All leftwing parties face this tension. People of good judgement can disagree about how to balance the two. But balanced they need to be ? without pragmatism, Labour might not have been steered, first by Hardie and then by MacDonald, to become the most important social democratic party of the first half of the 20th century.

But what should have been a tension, which could create energy, became a choice, which begat traitors: the later parts of MacDonald?s biography infected this part of Labour?s tradition, giving pragmatism his bad name.
New Labour was at its best when attempting to reconcile pragmatism and idealism, to reopen the settled judgement that there was an inevitable choice between the two, that the task of Labour politics was to work out the minimum sacrifice to electability that needed making.

Where was New Labour at its best? In policy. That is where pragmatism met idealism: an NHS, better funded, free at the point of use, but where patients had the power, or sure start, a new common institution supporting aspiration and reducing inequality.

But we never won the ideological argument. When activists did not like a particular policy, we often took a shortcut by saying that the electorate would not accept them or that globalisation made them impossible. But this led us away from the real destination ? of convincing activists and voters that New Labour was an ethical expression of Labour?s values, rather than a compromise with them.

We were doing good Labour things. But we still were not winning a common sense argument for Labour. Then, when the economy turned down, we did not have an argument on which to fall back, other than ?you can?t trust the Tories?. In contrast, they could bring their own common sense argument out of the drawer: the country was spending beyond its means; the only answer was to cut. Without Labour roots, the saplings of the third way did not stand a chance when the wind got up.

In the middle of that financial storm, I came across blue Labour. Soon after first meeting Maurice I found myself taking part in community organising training, discussing what made people suffer and how they could stop it. This was not a political meeting, but it took me straight back to the founding spirit of the Labour party, finding a way to organise around a common interest: the representation of the people.

Once, this work had been done in unions, in Hardie?s editorials in the Labour Leader, during speechmaking tours. By the 1990s, the work was being done in focus groups. Almost everyone misunderstood Philip?s groups. People thought he was going to Watford to find out what floating voters thought and then report back. Instead, he went to people?s front rooms to argue with them. He described the scene in The Unfinished Revolution: ?I loved the direct contact with the electorate, the way that I could put arguments, hear arguments, confront arguments ? I see them as an important part of the democratic process: part of a necessary dialogue between politicians and people, part of a new approach to politics.?

If the focus group was the organisational unit of New Labour, then for blue Labour it is the one-to-one. Two people who do not know each other sit down together and talk about what inspires, shapes and hurts them. They are about everyone, not just floating voters; and they can start a relationship. Blue Labour is fundamentally relational. They remind us that we can win a common sense argument for Labour.

What would that common interest look like? Blue Labour allows us to evolve, ideologically, by recognising that New Labour was right to value markets, but failed to stimulate enough private sector growth; was right to make welfare conditional, but did not talk enough about protection; right to care about aspiration, but did not think enough about belonging; right to care about community, but did not find a method to strengthen it; right to reform public services, but wrong to give up on market reform.

Thus modified, and strengthened by a confidence that they flow from a Labour tradition, these arguments would give us the confidence to take on the assumptions that have slept, barely disturbed even by the financial crisis, under British politics since 1979. A belief in private sector growth would replace reliance on the City. The responsibility of each would replace reliance on the rich. A protective welfare state could trump a means-tested safety net. We could stop the market when it threatened to damage communities. We would no longer assume that the electorate was fundamentally conservative ? or Conservative.

This is a conversation that is only just starting. It has been hard to have while both cousins were insulting each other, decrying each other?s nostalgia and change-mania respectively. I would have loved to hear Maurice and Philip discuss this, but I have a guess at what Philip would have said. Even in 2009, he was predicting the Global Spring. He was excited about how technology and the end of deference were rebalancing power. New Labour seminars often talked about empowerment, but Philip really believed it was becoming possible, and that we had to reform the state to grab that opportunity. We need to find a way of letting the people decide what that change should be and managing how it happens. Today, it seems possible ? and, if we can create legitimate institutions and powerful individuals, desirable.

New Labour was only just setting out on that journey. An encounter with blue Labour can give it the fuel to start again. This can give us a double-confidence: first, to seek renewal in our own tradition, and, second, that we can build a common interest with the people, which in turn gives them power. This is the way to reconcile principle and pragmatism. If people have power, both in their lives and through politics, they can decide both how to build a common life, and where to make compromises. They become both Hardie and MacDonald.

Philip had a richer word for pragmatism: duty. ?My father gave me duty, my mother idealism. They gave me both the land and the sea.? Duty is a human word ? an obligation you owe to people because you know them; a loyalty to ideas that you found together. Philip lived his intellectual inheritance by mixing loyalty to Labour with a dedication to winning power for the people it should always have represented. He and Maurice never met, but they shared an outlook ? that politics started with people and relationships, and that it was through them that one found purpose.

A journalist who went to Philip?s wake said to me that it had made him not only understand New Labour but think immeasurably better of it. He realised we were a family, with all the love and compromise, rivalry and shared dreams that go with that.

Blue and New are cousins in that family affair. They spring from an ethical, vibrant Labour argument. They are idealistic and dutiful. We can indeed have both the land and the sea.

Brazilian court bans anti-Islam film from YouTube

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) ? A judge in Brazil has ordered YouTube to remove clips of the movie that has touched off deadly protests across the Muslim world, the court said in a statement.

Judge Gilson Delgado Miranda gave the video-sharing site ten days to remove videos of the film, "Innocence of Muslims." After that, YouTube's parent company, Google, will face fines of $5,000 a day for every day the clips remain accessible in Brazil, according to the statement posted on the court's website late Tuesday .

The lawsuit was filed by a group representing Brazil's Muslim community, the National Union of Islamic Entities, which claims the film violates Brazil's constitutional guarantee of religious freedom for all faiths.

In a statement on the group's website, Mohamad al Bukai, the head of religious matters for the Sao Paulo-based organization, hailed the ruling as a victory.

"Freedom of expression must not be confused with giving disproportionate and irresponsible offense, which can provoke serious consequences for society," al Bukai said.

The statement also includes excerpts from the ruling, in which the judge stresses "this type of jurisprudence cannot be confused with censorship," which he defines as "the undue restriction of the civic consciousness."

Courts or officials in other countries also have sought to restrict access to clips of "Innocence of Muslims," renewing the debate over freedom of expression in the Middle East, the United States and Europe.

The film's portrayal of the Prophet Muhammad as a fraud, a womanizer and a child molester, has enraged many Muslims. At least 51 people, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya, have been killed in violence linked to protests over the film.

The Sao Paulo court's ruling came on the same day that Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff addressed the United Nations and urged an end to prejudice against Muslims.

The ruling follows a rash of other Brazilian court rulings against Google stemming from Brazil's strict electoral laws, which restrict what critics can say on television and radio about candidates for office. Ahead of municipal elections next month, Google has been repeatedly requested to remove videos that violate those restrictions, and on Tuesday, a judge in Mato Grosso do Sul state ordered the arrest of the head of Google's operations in Brazil for failure to remove YouTube videos that attacked a mayoral candidate.

Google said in an emailed statement on Tuesday that it was appealing the decisions regarding electoral laws and content removal. The company did not respond to requests for comment Wednesday about the "Innocence of Muslims" case.

Earlier this month a judge in Parana state in southern Brazil ordered that Google pay $500,000 for each day that it balked in fulfilling an order to remove videos from YouTube that attacked a candidate. In the northeastern state of Paraiba, a judge also ordered the imprisonment of another Google executive in Brazil earlier this month, also for not removing videos from YouTube attacking a mayoral candidate. That order was overruled by a higher court.

Google reportedly didn't expect Apple to ditch their maps so soon, still months away from releasing new app

Apple has a year left on their most recent Google Maps agreement, apparently, and didn't expect Apple to remove them from iOS 6 and launch a new app anywhere near this soon. Meaning, Google was caught flat-footed and won't be ready to ship a standalone Google Maps app for the App Store for several more months. This according to a quartet of stories published today.

Kevin Krolicki of Reuters scored a quote from Google Executive Chairman, Eric Schmidt:

"We think it would have been better if they had kept [our maps]. But what do I know?" Schmidt told a small group of reporters in Tokyo. "What were we going to do, force them not to change their mind? It's their call."

Schmidt also said Android was kicking the iPhone's butt, yet doesn't enjoy the same kind of media attention obsessively lavished on Apple. So there.

Bloomberg also got a quote from Schmidt at the same Tokyo Nexus event:

?We haven?t done anything yet with Google Maps,? Schmidt told reporters in Tokyo today. Apple would ?have to approve it. It?s their choice,? Schmidt said, declining to say if the Mountain View, California-based company submitted an application to Apple for sale through its App Store.

Chris Ziegler of The Verge, meanwhile, says Google was caught off-guard by Apple's timing:

Apple's decision to ship its own mapping system in the iPhone 5 and iOS 6 was made over a year before the company's agreement to use Google Maps expired, according to two independent sources familiar with the matter. The decision, made sometime before Apple's WWDC event in June, sent Google scrambling to develop an iOS Google Maps app ? an app which both sources say is still incomplete and currently not scheduled to ship for several months.

And Nick Wingfield and Claire Cain Miller of the New York Times says making the standalone Google Maps app will be complicated, firstly because they already have a Google Earth app and will need to figure out if they're going to consolidate it into maps, but also...

Google?s contract with Apple to keep the maps app on the iPhone had more time remaining, and Google did not know that Apple had changed its mind until Apple said publicly in June that it would replace the app with its new maps app, according to two people briefed on the decision.

Though, frankly, if Google only figured out Apple was rolling their own mapping solution when it was announced at WWDC, they're clearly reading the wrong blogs... The moment Apple bought its first mapping company, PlaceBase back in July of 2009 alarm bells should have been going off for Google -- giant, neon alarm bells -- and they should have immediately begun a skunkworks project to have a standalone iOS app ready and waiting for just such a turn of events. Seriously, it's like watching someone wind up a punch with cartoon-like exaggeration and not even preparing to counterpunch until knuckle starts denting jaw.

In any case, iOS 6 users will have to keep offering corrections to Apple's database, and those desperate to get Google Maps back onto their iPhones, iPod touches, and iPads will likely be stuck using maps.google.com for the next few months still, and that's unfortunate.
