What To Look And Feel For In Most Excellent Antivirus Application ...

Web security may be a wide field that encompasses a large number of aspects. These incorporate, but usually are not restricted to, protection from viruses, spyware, ad-ware, key-loggers, mail or IM spam, social engineering attacks made to force the user to generate irrational decisions, spoofing, fraudulent websites, malicious tracking cookies, phishing attacks and computer system hacks. As you possibly can see, the field grows vast in case you delve deep into it. This short article will briefly describe a few of these aspects.

The significance of internet safety can?t be understated. A virus attack may well make your office/home Pc inoperable. You could even lose critical information which can in no way be recovered. Envision losing an essential workplace document or some cherished pictures of family and friends. Spywares, ad-ware, malicious cookie and key-loggers may perhaps track your online usage and steal private info out of your Pc which could include credit card particulars and passwords. Hacking, spoofing and e-mail spam might possibly do the same. To protect from all these attacks, countless commercial/free items are readily available. Provided below is often a brief overview of what security software program is available.

One of the most popular internet threats are viruses and because of their fairly nature, they?re able to spread by means of removable media and neighborhood networks too. To put it merely, viruses are pieces of code which harm your computer system and/or make it vulnerable to way more malicious attacks. Loads of anti-virus options from different vendors exist currently within the market. These can be on the market as complete safety suites or as stand-alone merchandise. These products also could detect other malicious applications like spyware and ad-ware.

One other fundamental piece of computer software may be a firewall/program checker combination. Essentially a firewall checks information that is certainly sent or received by your Computer from the world wide web or LAN. The system checker component with the firewall checks/authorizes applications that access the online world. This element also monitor?s system level changes produced from the stated applications.

Other critical types of web safety software incorporate:

Phishing filters: that checks for fraudulent web sites as you surf the web and warns you when such a web-site is detected.
Anti-Spam filters: these examine your emails and detect fraudulent, inappropriate and/or other unwanted content within your mail and block them.
Ad-Blockers: Ads may well be malicious (or could possibly result in malicious sites). They also hog bandwidth because of their flash based and/or image based nature.
Other tools: These mainly rate websites depending on user evaluations and supply a statistical typical with the all round ?trustworthiness? of the website. Mostly available within the kind of addons to internet browsers.

On the other hand, the most effective way of safely surfing the web can simply be summed up as follows:

By no means go to un-trusted web-sites. Secure web pages in most cases have a certificate to prevent information from being spoofed.
In no way download software and/or other files from un-trusted sources. Application from respected firms is also digitally signed.
Emails from un-trusted sources ought to be opened with caution. An email which is most likely spam need to by no means be opened.
Install the suitable computer software as described above to further enhance your PC?s security.
Constantly maintain the above talked about application up to date.
Unless required, maintain your laptop or computer offline.

Even so, even right after following all these measures, no laptop shall be 100% secure. There will often be a new virus or an ingenious technique that will be used to break into or harm a Pc. Backing up your data could be the final and the most important step that will be taken.

Smarter electric grids could help us weather stormy future

1 day

As of Tuesday morning, Sandy was blamed for power outages affecting more than 8 million people. Although?of little help to people in the dark today, so-called smart-grid technologies being installed around the country will make the electric grid more resilient to future storms, according to an industry expert.

One caveat: ?It is economically unfeasible to storm-proof your system, and by storm-proof I mean resilient to anything that could happen,? Dean Oskvig, president of engineering consulting firm Black & Veatch?s global energy business, told NBC News Tuesday.

But utilities are installing technology such as self-healing switches that automatically route power around outages in an effort to minimize disruptions to service, he said.

Much of the smart grid is really about the installation of sensors and other equipment that offer utilities real-time monitoring of the grid so that they can detect and isolate power outages more quickly, which limits their spread and impact.?

Real-time monitoring of the grid also enables integration of small-scale distributed power stations onto the grid, which can provide electricity to a neighborhood, for example, when the city?s main plant is down.

Distributed power stations harken back to early days of the electric system when it was a hodgepodge of ?small individual generators all over the place and it was simply chaotic,? Oskvig said. As a result, greater reliability and efficiency drove evolution toward a system that relies on central power plants.

Today, however, the communications technology that underpins smart-grid systems ?has a way of accommodating a lot more distributed generation than we were able to do in the past,? he added.?

By the same token, a more intelligent grid is able to accommodate increased wind and solar power, which are plagued by intermittency.

?But, when you are faced with something like the storm out east, a smart grid will only take you so far,? Oskvig said.?

Utilities can make their grids more resilient with more traditional approaches such as?putting more of their power lines underground, which puts them out of the way of wind-toppled trees. But undergrounding lines costs several million dollars per mile versus a few hundred thousand dollars for overhead lines.

And even when lines are underground, that doesn?t mean the system is storm-proof. Power lines in New York City, for example, are already mostly underground. That didn?t stop floodwater from shutting down substations, Oskvig noted.

What measures a utility takes to make their systems more resilient to storms is a cost-benefit calculation. Sandy is considered a once-in-a-generation-type storm. Is it worth spending to put in?underground lines, install self-healing technology or build more, smaller distributed generation plants?

Given that Sandy is the type of storm that experts believe is consistent with global climate change, a more resilient grid seems prudent for our stormier future, a future that by some accounts is already here.

In the last year?New York, for example, has seen two tropical storms and a ?freak? snowstorm on Halloween 2011 that dumped a foot of snow. Each of those storms led to costly power outages that were, in isolation, considered rare events.

The cost of implementing the technologies required to smarten up and improve the grid will cost about $1.5 trillion over the next two decades, Mark Brownstein with the Environmental Defense Fund told American Public Media?s Marketplace on Monday.?

Flames rage anew in island town ravaged by Sandy

Helicopter aerials show an out-of-control blaze burning in Mantoloking, N.J., a community left devastated by Superstorm Sandy. TODAY's Natalie Morales reports.

By NBC News staff

A section of?Hurricane Sandy-ravaged Mantoloking, N.J., was ablaze again Wednesday morning, two days after 14 homes burned in the affluent barrier island enclave.

Video from NBCNewYork.com showed flames possibly fueled by broken natural gas lines raging in the town about 50 miles east of Trenton on Wednesday.

A large cluster of flames could be seen as smaller fires spread out from it, TODAY?s Natalie Morales reported.

Ocean County Emergency Management officials said they believed ruptured natural gas lines caused the flames to rekindle Wednesday.

Impassable roads hindered Bricktown firefighters? efforts to reach the blazes, NBCNewYork.com reported.

Flooding and Insurance: A To-Do List

With recent deluges showing just how hard some parts of the UK can be hit by flooding, anyone living in an area likely to be struck should have a plan of action in place. As well as having adequate insurance in place, it?s important to know how to avoid flooding and what to do if disaster strikes.

If you live in an area which is prone to flooding, here are a few things you can do to minimise potential damage to your home or business:

  • Invest in some flood boards, which can be put in place around doors to seal the opening in times of flooding
  • Fit water-resistant skirting boards throughout the lower level of your home
  • Dry-line walls using horizontal plasterboard or lime-based plaster
  • Install damp-proof brick courses
  • Fit non-return valves to drains and water inlet and outlets to prevent water from returning into your home. Most flooding occurs when water is forced back up through the toilets and drains
  • Varnish any wooden window and door frames
  • Raise electrical sockets, switches, fuse boxes, controls and other components to above the likely level of flooding.? These should be repositioned to at least 1.5 metres above ground level.
  • Place all valuables on high shelves which are unlikely to be reached by rising water
  • Keep insurance and other important documents on the highest floor of your house

There are a number of flood protection products and services available for those who are concerned about the risk. The Blue Pages contains a database of these products.

If you are unlucky and flooding does hit your home or business, chances are you will need to make a claim on your insurance. Here?s what you need to do:

  • Call your insurance company as soon as possible. Many insurers have a 24-hour helpline, check these details in advance and keep the number handy
  • Do not use electricity or gas, or drink tap water until you have been advised by a qualified professional that it is safe to do so
  • Take photos or videos of the damage wherever possible. Having this evidence may help you claim
  • Move any food, clothing, electrical items or other items of value upstairs to avoid further damage
  • Don?t dispose of any damaged items until the loss adjustor assigned to your case tells you do so. The insurer will need to see evidence of the damage
  • While you should have any emergency repair works done as soon as possible, do not start any other repairs until you have received approval from your insurer
  • If your insurer offers alternative accommodation while your home is being repaired, keep note of any additional expenses you incur while living away from home

After you have reported the flood to your insurers, there is still more you should do to ensure that your claim progresses smoothly;

  • Keep receipts for all expenses you incur. You will need to produce these to claim the costs back from your insurer
  • Check your car insurance documents for flood cover and act accordingly if your car has also been damaged
  • Do not start re-decorating before the building has completely dried out, no matter how tempting it becomes!

NYC tries to recover from storm as marathon nears

NEW YORK (AP) ? Five days before New York hosts its namesake marathon, its public transportation is shut down, its airports closed, its streets flooded and power out in many neighborhoods.

On Monday, as superstorm Sandy started to pound the city, NYC Marathon officials insisted they would have enough time before Sunday's race to prepare the course and for runners to travel to New York.

But it was uncertain Tuesday when life in the city would return to normal, and organizers promised an update on marathon preparations.

Nearly 20,000 amateur international runners need to get in the country. Another 30,000 or so American entrants must get to the starting line; the family and friends of runners must somehow find a way to their viewing spots.

And on Tuesday, it was unclear when public transit, river crossings and airports would reopen.

The marathon pours an estimated $350 million into the city each year. But it also requires major support from city departments that are being strained by the storm.

New York Road Runners President Mary Wittenberg said Monday they had a long list of contingency plans already in place to deal with any obstacles that might arise. The biggest concerns centered on getting runners to the start on Staten Island.

The 26.2-mile route through the five boroughs mostly avoids areas considered at highest risk for flooding.

"We have time on our side," Wittenberg said Monday.

NYRR organizes about 50 events a year and has dealt with issues ranging from heavy snow to lightning to security concerns in the past.

"We've been through close to it all," Wittenberg said.

Organizers expected to reschedule flights to get all the elite athletes to New York in time. Wittenberg hoped that most of the amateur international runners signed up would make it. The hours for number pickup will probably be extended for those who arrive late Saturday.

For runners who can't get to New York, the deadline to withdraw from the race and guarantee a spot in next year's event likely will be pushed back from Wednesday to Saturday. Under normal NYRR policy, organizers won't refund entry fees, and runners would have to pay again next year.

The ceremonial finish-line painting scheduled for Wednesday was canceled, along with a news conference Tuesday. A children's run Thursday was moved from Central Park to an indoor track, and the pavilion in the park has been taken down for the time being. Wittenberg said generators or backup systems were in place in key locations.

Extra time is always built into planning, and 700 part-time workers and 8,000 volunteers ensure the course can be set up quickly.

How to Pick Outfits for Family Pictures

October 30, 2012 by Aimee ?

I?m right there with you friends!? It?s that time of year where we spend an unnatural amount of time looking for clothing that make our families look and feel completely natural.? All with the intent of coming across complimented and well put together for the friends we only catch up with once a year?in the dreaded SUPER FUN Christmas Card! ?It?s simple, right!

Here?s my little ?How to Pick Outfits for Family Pictures? brainstorm!? Hopefully this will help a few of you on the hunt, too!

Katie Hice Photography

1.? Let?s talk colors.? Select a foundation color first and then accent with a few pops of color.? For example in the picture below, gray with a few touches of yellow and turquoise.? Not everyone is screaming yellow and turquoise, but there?s enough available to add interest.? Solid colored shirts work best (no logos or distracting pictures).

Leah Hoskins

2.? Want to look and feel slim?? Dress in what makes you feel comfortable.? If your arms are your tension point, cover them up with long sleeves or 3/4 sleeves.? If you don?t want to draw attention to your bottom, wear a long jacket.? If you?re uncomfortable, it will show in your portraits.

Givorgy Kraskoff Photography

3.? Layer and add accessories.? Bring in your own style by adding scarves, belts, jewelry, and fun shoes.? These little touches will help you show off your personality and style in the midst of a large family picture.

Jaiden Photography

4.? Patterns, tones, and textures.? Another skinny tip, darker jeans and darker shirts will always be most slimming.? When selecting a muted color base, choose to incorporate as much texture and as many tones as possible.? I would love to see some touches of herringbone, houndstooth, wools, and tweed incorporated in this mix of subtle clothing.? Basic is great, but be sure to make it special, too!

Photographic Designs

5.? Details, Details, Details.? Don?t wait until the last minute to find your perfect earrings and a bow that blends great for your little girl.? In case your hands show up in the pictures, take time to polish the nails of all the girls in the pictures.

What to Wear

6.? Watch the weather.? In the Fall and Winter months, the weather has a mind of it?s own!? Plan ahead and have options if you wake up on picture day and it?s bitter cold!? This time of year, as you look for picture outfits, think layers.? Layers always add interest!

A dark cloud has been forming over the Canadian retail landscape this month. Hudson?s Bay Co., Shoppers Drug Mart and Loblaw Companies Ltd. have all announced major job cuts. HBC said it will be laying off 210 employees as it moves its information-services department from Toronto to Missouri. Shoppers Drug Mart cut 80 jobs from its head and regional offices. Last week, Loblaw said it is cutting 700 head-office jobs as it looks to streamline operations.

One of the causes: the U.S. retail juggernaut Target Corp., which is opening 189 locations across Canada and which will offer stiff competition in the pharmacy, clothing and grocery businesses. With more retailers looking to expand their offerings and lower prices (Loblaw has already been struggling with Wal-Mart Stores Inc.?s expansion into groceries), it?s getting harder for companies to distinguish themselves, says Kenneth Wong, a marketing professor at Queen?s University. But Wong suggests that the magnitude of the layoffs ?suggests there is also something larger at play? than just bracing for Target, or the rising costs associated with drug reforms that Shoppers cited as the reason for its cuts. He says a slowing economy is the main culprit. And that?s bad news for Canadian retailers and U.S. invaders alike.

Roku Adds Universal Search For Netflix, Amazon, Hulu Plus ...

Have a Roku streaming device? Cool. Now have a movie or TV show you want to watch, but don?t know whether it?s on Netflix, or Amazon, or Hulu? Well, I?ve got good news for you, as Roku has just launched a universal search feature, which will help you discover content available across some of the more popular video services available on its streaming set-top boxes.

The availability of a new, universal search option will help to solve a major problem that exists not just on Roku, but on most devices capable of streaming video from multiple channels or apps. That is, when faced with hundreds of thousands of pieces of content across multiple services, it?s nearly impossible to know where to find a single piece of content. And in the case of Roku in particular, going into one channel to search for a piece of content ? only to not find it ? can be a frustrating experience, thanks to the overall side-scrolling UI and lack of a keyboard on its remote.

Other streaming devices have solved for the search issue in a few different ways. In the case of the iPad, there are now universal search and discovery apps, like Fanhattan or Dijit?s NextGuide, which collapse multiple streaming services into one easy-to-navigate interface. And with the availability of new video services, Microsoft recently rolled out a universal search function for its Xbox Live service.

In Roku?s case, the new Roku Search channel will peer into some of the most popular apps available on the device, including Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Hulu Plus, Crackle, VUDU, and HBO GO. In addition to searching for a movie or TV show title, users can also search for available titles that include specific actors or directors. Once you?ve found a title you?re looking for, you can see which services a piece of content is available on and choose between them.

I played around with the new Roku Search feature and found it a welcome change to the old way of finding anything on the Roku device ? i.e. endlessly poking around. But, to be honest, it?s still pretty clunky due to the general Roku UI and the way you have to scroll through and click letters to search on the screen.

Roku says that there are more than 130,000 titles searchable through the new channel, as well as nearly 100,000 actors and directors. Roku Search will work with all Roku 2, Roku LT, and new Roku HD players, as well as the Roku Streaming Stick. And users of the Roku iOS and Android mobile apps will be able to access the keyboard through those apps, eliminating some of the up-down-left-right issues scrolling through letters on the device.

Roku Search became available as part of a free update that the company will push to users over the next week. Or, if you?re impatient, just go to Settings, choose ?Software Update,? and the streaming box should update to the latest version and install Roku Search via channel code.

Roku is a consumer electronics firm which specializes in home digital media products. They?re best known for creating the first set-top streaming box for Netflix. The company was founded by ReplayTV founder Anthony Wood. ?Roku? means ?six? in Japanese, a reference to the six companies Wood has launched.

WORD VIRUS: The Dead Have Something to Tell You

Seattle

ONCE, we commemorated the dead, left out offerings to feed them and lamps to guide them home. These days, Halloween has drifted far from its roots in pagan and Catholic festivals, and the spirits we appease are no longer those of the dead: needy ghosts have been replaced by costumed children demanding treats.

Over the last century, as Europeans and North Americans began sequestering the dying and dead away from everyday life, our society has been pushing death to the margins. We tune in to television shows about serial killers, but real bodies are hidden from view, edited out of news coverage, secreted behind hospital curtains. The result, as Michael Lesy wrote in his 1987 book ?The Forbidden Zone,? is that when death does occur, ?it reverberates like a handclap in an empty auditorium.?

It wasn?t always this way. Death once occurred at home, with friends and family gathered around. Local women were responsible for washing the body and sewing the shroud. People sometimes slept in the same room as corpses, because there was nowhere else to go. In the Middle Ages, cemeteries often acted as the public square: you didn?t just walk on the graves, you ate, drank, traded and sometimes even sang and danced on top of them.

You can see this familiarity with death in the ways people have historically treated famous dead bodies. Alexander the Great?s mummy was one of the most revered objects in the ancient world, and a stop at his tomb provided a political boost to Roman emperors (Augustus supposedly went as far as kissing the corpse, though it?s said he knocked off Alexander?s nose in the process). Soon afterward, early Christians began building the first churches over the tombs of martyrs, and venerating their body parts ? fingers and toes, tongues and eyeballs ? as miracle-producing sacred relics. A letter from around A.D. 156 describes the bones of St. Polycarp as ?more valuable than precious stones and finer than refined gold.?

The veneration of relics is a well-known religious practice, but the tradition also influenced the treatment of secular saints like Galileo and Descartes, whose bones were seen as symbols of their genius. When Galileo was exhumed in 1737 in Florence, Italy, for transfer to a more lavish tomb, several fingers, a tooth and a vertebra were plucked from his skeleton to be kept as relics. When Descartes was exhumed in Sweden in 1666 for reburial in France, a guard stole his skull, and the French ambassador pocketed his right index finger. During the French Revolution, a conservator reported that he?d carved some of Descartes? bones into rings, which he distributed to ?friends of the good philosophy.?

The idea of turning the dead into jewelry wouldn?t have seemed strange to the Victorians, who often wore rings, lockets and other adornments made from the hair of dead loved ones. The Romantics were particularly serious about these things, and Mary Shelley went so far as to keep Percy Shelley?s heart ? plucked from his beachfront funeral pyre ? in her desk drawer until she died. In her defense, keeping a heart as a relic wasn?t entirely uncommon: Voltaire?s heart is still kept at the Biblioth?que Nationale in Paris, while Chopin?s is preserved in alcohol at Warsaw?s Church of the Holy Cross.

Hearts and hair weren?t the only bodily remnants once kept around the house. After the author and statesman Thomas More was beheaded in 1535, his devoted daughter Margaret rescued his boiled-and-tarred head from its pike on London Bridge, preserved it with spices, and later asked to be buried with it in her arms. And the widow of the writer and adventurer Sir Walter Raleigh kept his embalmed head in a case after he was executed in 1618.

Today these stories strike us as macabre; they display an intimacy with death that seems downright unhealthy. But taken as signs of their times, it?s possible that they actually show a healthier relationship with death than the one we have now. Despite the (frequently commendable) advances that have removed death as a constant presence in our lives, it remains inevitable, and many of us are ill prepared when it comes.

The erasure of death also allows us to imagine that our mortal trivialities and anxieties are permanent, while a consistent awareness of death ? for those who can stomach it ? can help us live in the here and now, and teach us to treasure what we already have. In fact, a study by University of Missouri researchers released this spring found that contemplating mortality can encourage altruism and helpfulness, among other positive traits.

This idea probably would have seemed stranger half a century ago than it does now. While death is still largely absent from our lives, we?re starting to be a little more comfortable talking about it. Since the mid-1950s, a growing body of academic literature has sprung up around death, dying and grief. Cultural products that deal with corpses ? everything from Mary Roach?s best-selling book ?Stiff? to the Internet video series ?Ask a Mortician? ? are becoming more popular. ?Death cafes,? in which people come together over tea and cake to discuss mortality, have begun in Britain and are spreading to the United States, alongside other death-themed conferences and festivals (yes, festivals).

Of particular note, the hospice movement has taken death back from an exclusively medical setting, and more Americans are now dying at home, frequently among their families. (According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 19 percent of Americans aged 85 and older died at home in 2007, compared to 12 percent in 1989.)

It?s never easy to confront mortality, but perhaps this year, while distributing the candy and admiring the costumes of the neighborhood kids, it?s worth returning to some of the origins of Halloween by sparing a thought for those who have gone before. As our ancestors knew, it?s possible that being reminded of their deaths will add meaning to our lives.

United wins at Chelsea in EPL after 10-year wait

By ROB HARRIS

AP Sports Writer

Associated Press Sports

updated 7:52 p.m. ET Oct. 28, 2012

LONDON (AP) -Substitute Javier Hernandez ended Manchester United's 10-year wait for a Premier League victory at Chelsea on Sunday, striking late to secure a 3-2 win after the hosts had two players sent off.

The Mexico striker scored in the 75th minute to inflict the league leaders' first loss of the season and put United just a point behind Chelsea.

"It was a really difficult game as they commanded at the end of the first half, we were very lucky we scored the last goal," Hernandez said. "For some people it will be very controversial, for others it won't. For us, we won the three points and it was very difficult."

United threw away a two-goal lead established inside 12 minutes. Robin van Persie saw his shot turned in by Chelsea defender David Luiz before getting on the scoresheet himself.

Chelsea fought back as Juan Mata curled in a free kick just before half time and Ramires headed in an equalizer eight minutes after the break.

Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic was sent off in the 63rd for bringing down Ashley Young, and striker Fernando Torres received a second booking for diving.

"It's a shame a game like this has to be decided in this manner by officials," Chelsea manager Roberto di Matteo said. "Surely when he watches the images he (the referee) will realize he made a big mistake."

Chelsea had not lost at Stamford Bridge in a league match to United since Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003, and he watched in frustration as his side's comeback counted for nothing.

"It's been 10 years since we have won down here," United manager Alex Ferguson said. "We had a good record until Jose (Mourinho) came along (in 2004) and spoiled the party."

Chelsea will have a chance for revenge on Wednesday when the teams meet again in the League Cup here.

Early on, Chelsea appeared to be missing captain John Terry, who was serving the second game of his four-match ban for racially abusing an opponent.

After just four minutes, United ripped through Chelsea's defense down the right with Young laying the ball off to Wayne Rooney, who squared to Van Persie in the penalty area.

The Netherlands striker's shot came off the post but it bounced off Luiz into the net.

Chelsea's brittle back line was sliced through again in the 12th when Rafael da Silva was given too much space to storm down the right flank unchallenged.

The defender slipped the ball through to Antonio Valencia, who crossed to the unmarked Van Persie to sweep in his ninth United goal since arriving in August.

United was playing with confidence, pinging the ball across the turf with ease and precession.

Chelsea took time to assert itself on the visitors, but kept United goalkeeper David de Gea busy for the rest of the half, blocking a free kick of Luiz with his outstretched right foot and then thwarting Gary Cahill's header.

But the pressure paid off for Chelsea a minute before the break, with Mata superbly curling the free kick inside the post after Eden Hazard was brought down by Rooney.

The momentum was with Chelsea - and continued after the break as United's defense was the one to be exposed.

The equalizer came eight minutes into the second half as United failed to close down Chelsea's fluid attacking play.

Mata took the ball to the byline and found space to whip in a cross that Torres headed across to Oscar. The Brazilian then chipped across to Ramires, who rose above Tom Cleverley to head past De Gea.

As the hosts continued to pressure the United defense, their plan was ripped apart by being reduced to 10 men in the 63rd when Ivanovic brought down Young, halting his advance to goal.

Six minutes later, referee Mark Clattenburg pulled out the red card again to further infuriate Chelsea.

Having been booked at the end of the first half for a foul on Cleverley, Torres received a second yellow card after being adjudged to have gone down too easily under Evans' challenge.

"I made a bit of contact but I don't feel it was enough to bring him down," Evans said. "I think he probably realized he wasn't getting the ball and went down."

Hernandez restored United's lead in the 75th, 10 minutes after replacing Cleverley.

Van Persie's initial shot appeared to be creeping into the bottom right of the net after Cech got a touch to it but the goalkeeper hacked the ball away.

It fell to Rafael, whose shot was turned into the net by Hernandez, although the striker later accepted he might have been offside.

Just after Hernandez's winner, a steward in front of Chelsea fans fell to the ground and was still receiving treatment as the match ended.

"He slipped and fell and may have hurt his knee," Chelsea spokesman Steve Atkins said, refuting initial suggestions that the steward was hit by an object.

How to Handle Hyperactivity in Kids with ADHD | World of Psychology

How to Handle Hyperactivity in Kids with ADHD Hyperactive kids with ADHD are always on the go, according to Roberto Olivardia, Ph.D, a clinical psychologist and clinical instructor in the department of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. It?s like they have a motor winding them up. ?Words like ?Energizer Bunny,? ?Speedy Gonzalez? and the ?Roadrunner? are common nicknames to describe the?never-ending vessel of energy?ADHD kids exhibit,? he said.

For instance, rather than sitting at their desk, they might jump up several times to sharpen their pencil, said Ari Tuckman, PsyD, a clinical psychologist and author of Understand Your Brain, Get More Done: The ADHD Executive Functions Workbook. Rather than sitting at the dinner table, they might walk around it ? or go and play with the pet, he said.

Physical hyperactivity isn?t the only concern. Hyperactive kids also experience racing ? and ?rarely singular or linear? ? thoughts, Olivardia said. ?The idea of ?shutting their minds off? is a foreign concept to someone who is hyperactive.?

Because of their hyperactivity, kids with ADHD can have a hard time in school, where sitting still is nonnegotiable. ?[They] can miss much of what is taught simply because their brains are not as stimulated when they are still,? Olivardia said. (However, as he said, ?Perhaps the current setup of school, sitting still for 6 hours a day 5 days a week, is the real problem.?)

They also might experience social problems, he said. And hyperactivity ?can lead to more accidents and injuries if the child engages in reckless activities in order to get some of that energy out,? Tuckman said.

Handling Hyperactivity in Kids with ADHD

Parenting a child who?s hyperactive is no doubt exhausting. Tuckman and Olivardia shared these suggestions on how to handle hyperactivity.

Have a clear understanding of hyperactivity.

Being hyperactive is not the same as misbehaving, Olivardia said. Hyperactivity in ADHD is hardwired, he said. ?It is analogous to feeling an intense itch and not scratching it. Even if you don?t scratch it, you?ll be so distracted by wanting to.? In addition to educating yourself, educate your child as well about why they?re hyperactive, he added.

Find other ?fidgets.?

Fidgeting actually helps kids focus and reduce hyperactivity. Olivardia referred to a book called Fidget to Focus, which describes the science of fidgeting and its ability to sharpen attention. He also suggested finding other ways to fidget, such as chewing gum or having an object to manipulate.

Create more engagement.

For instance, teachers can set up desks in a circle or have ?stand-up desks,? Olivardia said. Kids with ADHD are usually more engaged when they?re moving around a bit than sitting still. Get creative, experiment and go with what works, he said.

Ignore the hyperactivity.

?Sometimes the best solution is just to ignore it,? Tuckman said. For instance, when your child is having dinner at home, if they?re eating their food and not misbehaving, let them stand or walk around the table, he said.

Get rid of excess energy.

?You can burn off some of that hyperactivity by allowing the child to be more active before they need to sit still,? Tuckman said.

The important thing is not to fight hyperactivity by telling your child to stop fidgeting, be still or stay seated, Tuckman said. In fact, ?Simply saying ?Sit still? can be invalidating and lead to self-esteem problems in kids with ADHD,? Olivardia said. Instead, help your child channel their excess energy, Tuckman said.

Also, ?Remember that this same kind of energy, which can be a lot to handle as a parent or teacher when kids are younger, is the same kind of energy that can contribute to amazing things as an adult,? Olivardia said. Many entrepreneurs were diagnosed with ADHD as kids, and today, use their energy to brainstorm exciting ideas and run out-of-the-box businesses, he said.

Worry - STDs - MedHelp

Welcome to the Forum.??I'll try to help. Most commercial sex workers do not have STDs and even when they do, most unprotected exposures do not lead to infection.??Further, in your case, condom protected sex is safe sex with no appreciable risk for any STD.??Receipt of oral sex is likewise very low risk.??In addition, I should point out to you that there are no STDs which cause symptoms at 24-48 hours after exposure so any symptoms you have experienced to date are not STDs acquired through the exposures that you describe.??

The wrinkling and white mark you have noted are likely to be normal skin structures that you have not noticed in the past, not signs of an STD.??

Please do not take antibiotics ?just in case?.??Many of our clients do this and it typically confuses things.??If you are truly concerned you can go to a local STD clinic for evaluation.??They are good at STD testing and provide confidential services at little or no cost, sometimes on a walk--in basis and sometimes by appointment,??.??To find your local STD Clinic call the local Health Department.

My advice to you is to not worry.??I hope my comments will help you not to worry.??EWH??

Google's Oct. 29 Android event canceled due to Hurricane Sandy

9 hrs.

"We are canceling our Monday morning event in New York due to Hurricane Sandy," a note from Google's Android team explains. "We will let you know our plans as soon as we know more. Stay safe and dry."

Monday's event was originally scheduled for 10 a.m. ET and was expected to include the announcement of Android 4.2 as well as a variety of new gadgets.

Rumors, reports, and leaked images suggest that Google's intending to unveil a new Nexus smartphone???an LG device dubbed the Nexus 4???as well as a 10-inch tablet called the Nexus 10. Additionally, the company is expected to add two new models to its Nexus 7 tablet?line???32GB devices, one of which should have HSPA+ connectivity.

The?cancellation?of Monday's event doesn't mark the first time that Google has adjusted its product announcement plans based on current events, of course. In October 2011, the company rescheduled the unveiling of the Galaxy Nexus smartphone and Android 4.0 (better known as Ice Cream Sandwich) out of respect for the passing of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.
