Douglas College has been recognized as one of the best schools for sales professionals by a non-profit organization that promotes the profession through university and college programs.
The Sales Education Foundation (SEF), based in Ohio, recently released its 2012 list of top sales programs from post-secondary institutions across the U.S. and Canada. Programs are recognized for preparing and placing top talent in professional selling roles.
To make the list, programs require a minimum of three sales-specific courses and the opportunity for internships. Most provide sales in the form of a certificate, concentration or minor to students from a diverse list of majors.
Douglas offers three sales courses ? Personal Selling, Professional Selling and Sales Management. Students graduate with a marketing diploma, and the majority of graduates find their careers in sales.
David Moulton, a Douglas marketing instructor, Moulton says he wanted Douglas College to become affiliated with the Sales Education Foundation because of the increasing demand for academic qualifications for new sales people.
He points out that a large percentage of college students in North America enter sales careers, yet a majority fail due to a lack of professional preparation.
?Universities and colleges with professional selling programs are receiving significant attention from companies for successful hiring,? he says. ?It used to be that your personal and professional qualifications were more important than your academic qualifications, but the U.S schools seem to be really moving toward academic qualification in a big way. We are going to see more and more of that in Canada as well.?
Douglas College is one of the largest colleges in British Columbia, providing bachelor's degrees, university transfer, career and post-degree programs for over 20,000 students each year.
