Six Long Beach VA Nurses Selected to Ride in Veterans Day ...

Six nurses from the Long Beach Veterans Administration Hospital will accompany Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske in the 16th annual Veterans Day Parade on November 10, 2012.

?The Veterans Administration Hospital here in Long Beach is one of the best facilities for spinal cord and traumatic injury patients. We often forget to recognize the commitment, dedication, and sacrifice of nurses who tend to our wounded veterans. I?m proud to be accompanied by these unsung heroes who work every day to make sure our veterans get the best care in the country,? stated Councilwoman Schipske.

The Long Beach Veterans Administration Hospital officials were asked to recommend six outstanding nurses to ride in the parade with the Councilwoman. They are:

Yvonne Ginez-Gonzales, MSN, RN, PHN, CHPN, Management of Information and Outcomes (MIO) Coordinator and Nursing Supervisor ? Ginez-Gonzales works in the Spinal Cord Injury Healthcare Group, has served for 13 years in the Army and Army Reserves.

Robert Kotecki, MSN, RN-BC, CNL, Clinical Nurse Leader, L1 in Acute Psychiatry ? served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an infantryman, finishing his duty in Yokosuka, Japan. Kotecki became a Clinical Nurse Leader so he can continue his service to our country by taking care of our soldiers.

Kang Kim, RN, Surgical Health Care Group ?enlisted as a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman and worked as a licensed vocational nurse after his enlistment. Kim currently works as a staff R.N. in the recovery room or post anesthesia care unit and also works in the same day surgery unit at the VA Long Beach Hospital.

Lisa Lobdell, RN, MSN, Care/Case Management ? works with Pulmonary, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Hematology, Oncology, and Endocrinology. Lobdell works with patients suffering from Lou Gehrig?s disease, and combat veterans from all of the world wars, Afghanistan, and Iraq. She worked as an Air Force Trauma Nurse and became a travel nurse before suffering a foot injury.

Ruth Lenke Likout, RN, BSN, Blind Rehabilitation, Blind Center Care ? served as a Navy Corpsman for ten years, and has worked in Obstetrics, Labor and Delivery, Newborn Nursery, and Drug and Alcohol rehabilitation. Likout worked for the Department of Air Force (Civil Service) for 10 years in women?s health and then moved to the VA in Tucson, AZ and worked in Hospice and Blind Rehabilitation. She moved to Long Beach last October to assist with the opening of the new Blind Center.

Sung S. Hong, RN, Critical Care Unit ? served as combat medic for five years, deployed to Iraq twice in 2004 and 2010 as a Civil Affair Officer and Environmental Science Officer. Hong continues to serve as a drilling reservist in 75 Training Division in Garden Grove in addition to his duties in the Critical Care unit.

Councilwoman Schipske and her six honored guests will ride in a 1958 Mack Fire Truck in the parade on November 10th. A short program will begin at Houghton Park (Harding and Atlantic Ave.) at 9:20. The parade starts at 10:00 am and travels along Atlantic Ave from Harding to 56th Street. You are welcome to come personally thank these individuals for their service.
